Hi, I am just placing my first order with Bomar and I wanted to know is it best to buy unrefined or refined olive oil and castor oil? Also what quantities should I buy as a beginner?
Hi Martina, Best olive oil is always extra virgin version which you can buy in any supermarket in Ireland , but you can buy just simple olive oil , make sure the ingredients label on the back of the bottle, says “olive oil” only and nothing else. Olive oil often is adultered and mixed with other oils which will impact the saponification value . Castor oil refined is fine just to start practicing. However the decision of oil quality (organic or not, refined and unrefined ) is yours based on your budget and personal preferences.
Regarding quantities to buy ? again depends on your budget, and depends of how much soap you want to make. Follow the quantities of the recipe you are going to make, and buy accordingly. Hope this helps
