A Self-Care Valentine’s Day.

Roses are red, violets are blue, it’s Valentine’s Day, so take care of you. When the 14th of February rolls around, we get bombarded with chocolates and flowers in supermarkets aisles and images of romantic love in the media. Although Valentine’s Day is ideal for lovers, it’s also a great time to ensure that you are taking care of yourself. Regardless of whether you’re coupled or enjoying the single life, caring for yourself a little more this V-Day is a lovely idea. In this article, we’ll offer some tips on how to celebrate a self-care Valentine’s Day.

SPOIL YOURSELF

If there’s something you’ve been wanting for a while, why not give it to yourself now? In our lives, we often spend time caring for others and making sure that they’re okay and have everything they need rather than focusing that energy on ourselves. On Valentine’s Day, be your own sweetie by focusing all that love, light, and energy inwards. You can splash out on a nice mani-pedi or cook your favourite meal at home. Even if you just pick your favourite wine and cheese at the shop, take time to fully enjoy a treat from your lifelong Valentine—yourself.

SPEND TIME WITH LOVED ONES

Valentines need not be romantic. Galentine’s Day, the gal pal alternative, has become increasingly popular in recent years and for good reason. Sometimes, there’s no need to stress yourself out about finding a date for V-Day when you’re already surrounded by people you adore. Meet your friends for dinner, drinks or a double feature at the cinema. You’re sure to have a great time and truly feel the love while sharing some quality time with those closest to you.

DISCONNECT FROM SOCIAL MEDIA

Granted that social media helps us connect with those we know and care about, but at times it can do more harm than good. Not to mention that seeing a flood of images of others flaunting their Valentine’s Day celebrations can send you for a tailspin if you’re not in the right mindset. This year, save yourself the trouble and spend some time away from your phone. It’s just as easy to read a book, go for a walk or catch up on some much-needed sleep. Forget about the FOMO for a few hours because, after all, social media will be there tomorrow.

DECOMPRESS AND MINIMIZE STRESS

Stress can cause a whole host of health issues and generally decreases your quality of life. Unwind and relax this V-Day by devoting some time to destressing activities. Whether that’s meditating, doing yoga, or taking a long hot bath, anything will do as long as it’s relaxing for you. Remember that not everyone finds the same things relaxing. Whatever you decide to do, soak up the relaxation and indulge in your stress-free zone.

WRITE SOMETHING

Writing is a wonderful way to actívate your creativity and allow your emotions to flow freely. Even if you’re not a big writer, keeping a journal or taking note of events that have happened in your life are great ways to get perspective. You can revisit your feelings on a certain topic, find closure or even reminisce about good times past. You might also consider writing an email to a friend who you’ve lost touch with to see how they’re doing. Let your words guide you on this self-care Valentine’s Day.
