Zero Packaging Skincare Formulation
Here’s a list of zero-packaging skincare products formulation ideas designed to minimize plastic waste while offering effective skincare solutions:
Cleansers
Solid Cleansing Bars – Gentle soap-free facial bars for cleansing. These are basically anhydrous skincare products (products with no water) than are made from a high percentage of butters enough to create a hard bar. Currently there is a shortage of cocoa butter production in the whole world ,and I guess the trend of solid skincare products is most likely the cause of it. Don’t worry there are many other cosmetic use butters than can be used, however melting point of butters determine the end result of the product. If you would like to receive the butters sheet info please comment under this post and will send it to you by email.
Solid cleansing bars are not suitable for acne prone skin
Powdered Facial Cleansers – Water-activated powders for exfoliating and cleansing. This a great concept product as we formulators don’t have the headache of figuring out what preservative, chelating agents, or pH buffer to include in a water based/emulsion facial cleansers. Just mix the active powders in a beautiful glass jar . Scoop a teaspoon in your hand and add water. Apply to your skin and rinse. Voila!
Exfoliators
Powdered Exfoliants – Mix with water or a cleanser for use. Same formulation method as powdered facial cleansers above but using different kind of ingredients that act as a natural exfoliant with peeling effects. It can be mechanical or chemical (fruit enzymes, natural acids) exfoliants ingredients.
Loofahs or Konjac Sponges – Natural exfoliating tools, biodegradable. These are very effective even using them without any product. Konjac is softer to use on the face and loofahs on the body
Moisturizers
Solid Moisturizing Bars – Lotion bars that melt on contact with skin. Lotion is technically an emulsion , however it has become popular to make a solid bar (anhydrous) like a balm but harder. Basically like the cleanser bar above but made with moisturizing ingredients. No suitable for acne prone skin
Balms in Metal Tins – Compact, reusable containers. If you would like to make beautiful balms and luxurious serums, butter products you can find 21 amazing recipes in my latest ebook . This ebook is the first step into cosmetic making world . All recipes are professionally formulated and created by myself.
Serums
Serum Bars – Solid serums packed with active ingredients. Same concept formula like cleanser bars, moisturizing bars however you would use specific natural active ingredients in higher percentages to achieve specific results on the face: anti-wrinkle, reaffirm, brown spots, anti-aging, melasma. Not suitable for acne prone skin
Powdered Serums – Mix with water to activate before application. Same concept as powdered exfoliant above but different type of ingredients. Normally water soluble actives mixture in a jar such a; vitamin C, niacinamide, arbutin, ascorbyl glucoside, and many more. Watch out for right pH and incompatibilities . You can not mix just anything you like . You can learn skincare formulation knowledge to make all type of skincare products in Certificate Complete Skincare Course
Sunscreen
Solid Sunscreen Sticks – Easy application and plastic-free. These products normally are anhydrous (waterless) hard balms with added zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. These two ingredients are not oil soluble but they are dispersible .
Mineral Sunscreen in Tins – Sustainable packaging. Same as sticks but softer packaged in a tin.
Masks
Clay Masks in Loose Powder Form – Mix with water or other liquids. Mix of clays in jar with added powder ingredients that just need to add water when you apply the product. This way the product shelf life is not compromise.
Pressed Mask Tablets – Activated with toner or water or herbal teas.
Body Care
Soap Bars – All-natural, sulfate-free options for body cleansing. You have different options of soap:
- Traditional cold process soapmaking ( Marseille soap, Olive oil soap , Aleppo soap) You can learn how to make this soap in my Certificate Soapmaking Course
Solid Body Butter Bars – Hydrate and nourish without the need for jars. You would need a tin or a sort of dish soap to rest the bar when you are not using it although it can get a dusty. You better cover with a little towel or a tin . Maybe a butter dish could be a good idea! just thinking outside the box.

These products are not only eco-friendly but also designed to reduce your environmental footprint while maintaining a high-quality skincare routine.
The key about creating these wonderful products is ingredient knowledge and formulation technology to make them properly and avoid melting when the product is travelling in different climates or stored in different temperatures. The product must remain in the same shape and form when was created . This can be a challenge if you are following wrong skincare recipes in youtube and you don’t have the right knowledge on skincare formulation. You will waste ingredients, money and frustration. I recommend to learn skincare formulation with me in my Certificate Complete Skincare Online Course
