The Republic of Ireland is experiencing one of the harshest lockdowns in the European Union, leaving families and teens at their wit’s end. As a result, we thought this month’s recipe should be a 3 ingredient face mask for teenagers to help keep them busy, as well as teach them the value and beauty of nature! This face mask recipe was inspired by one that Mayca made with her daughter. Want to give your teenager something fun and rewarding to do at home? Discover how to make a 3 ingredient face mask and enjoy some self-care together!
Ingredients
To make this 3 Ingredient face mask, you’ll need:
- 50 g Coconut Oil
- 25 g White Clay
- 25 g Neem Powder
Properties of Ingredients
Here we’ll explore the natural properties of the ingredients.
Coconut Oil
The natural benefits of coconut oil are renowned and plentiful. This natural oil has an undeniably sweet smell and is solid at room temperature. Coconut oil has medium-chain fatty acids, which provide nourishment to the skin, as well as offer antimicrobial properties, thus keeping acne-causing bacteria at bay. Also, its antifungal properties make it great for treating cradle cap on babies. Packed full of vitamins and minerals, coconut oil promotes skin and hair health.
White Clay
Also known as Kaolin clay, white clay comes from a hill in China, which explains its name. The colour of Kaolin clay generally depends on the minerals it contains, and in this case, white clay contains kaolinite. Similarly to Bentonite, white clay works to remove any toxins in the body; however, it is gentler than its volcanic cousin. The gentle cleansing that white clay provides can help reduce inflammation and breakouts. Also, its superfine texture is ideal for exfoliating away dead skin cells and leaving behind soft skin.
Neem Powder
Neem powder comes from the tropical neem tree, which has been used throughout history for its medicinal properties. Its powder offers Vitamin E, fatty acids, antioxidants, and calcium among other nutrients. Neem has a reputation for treating skin issues, including psoriasis and eczema. Not to mention that it can help treat acne, heal wounds, minimise scarring, soothe dry skin, minimise the signs of ageing, and stimulate the production of collagen.
Crafting your 3 ingredient face mask
Making this 3 ingredient face mask is extremely easy. All you need to do is melt the coconut oil into liquid form, then add it to the white clay and neem powder, and finally stir. The mask will develop a creamy, paste-like consistency, which would be great for applying with a brush. Although coconut oil’s melting point is quite low at 24°C, it will solidify at room temperature (especially in Ireland.) The product will become like balm in storage, but it can be used with a little spatula or slightly heated in the bain-marie method.
*If you cannot find ingredients in Ireland, be sure to contact Mayca via this form or by emailing info@wapo.ie, as she has plenty available to purchase. She currently has a surplus that she doesn’t want to go to waste!
Tips for Use
This is a lovely face mask that you can make quickly and easily at home. It has absolutely NO preservatives (and no irritancy potential) as the product does not contain water. That means this 3 ingredient face mask can be stored for a long time and has a long shelf life, as long dirty hands do not touch the product and water is NOT introduced in the product. Also, the coconut oil percentage is high in this recipe as it is a rinse-off product! Unfortunately, as many of you may already know, long-term use of face coverings and masks are not ideal for the skin, so hopefully, this helps keep your skin healthy.
